We’re back from another successful Mosquito Kolymbari Meeting. Prof. Christophides was the main organiser and he is very thankful to the organising committee and Sarah Kelly for their continuous support, EMBO for funding and the OAC for hosting the meeting. All of this lead to a fantastic week in Kolymbari, Crete.

Farewell Kathrin!

Kathrin was a postdoc in the VigiLab from December 2013 to April 2017. While in the Vigilab, she has held an advanced Postdoc. Mobility fellowship from the Swiss National Science Foundation for two years from February 2015 to January 2017. Kathrin continues her work in malaria as a postdoc in Jake Baum’s laboratory www.baumlab.com at Imperial College London.

EMBO conference registration is open

Gates Foundation Grant

George K. Christophides and Nikolai Windbichler received a $2.8 million grant from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation to develop an intervention that renders populations of Anopheles gambiae mosquitoes unable to become infected with the malaria parasite thus preventing disease transmission to humans.

This month the lab said goodbye to Mathilde Gendrin, a long standing member of VigiLab. She will be embarking on her next adventure in French Guiana, at the Institut Pasteur. Mathilde will have the fantastic opportunity to set up her own lab at the Institute. We would like to thank you for all your hard work over the last 5 years and we wish you all the best for the future.

 

Crick-Imperial PhD fellowship

Professor George K. Christophides was awarded together with Dr Jean Langhorne (The Crick Institute) a joint Crick-Imperial PhD fellowship grant to investigate the role of the mosquito immune system in selecting and resetting malaria parasites before they infect the vertebrate host.
